I’m a bit confused because I can’t find much updated documentation for Proxmox 9 regarding hardware fencing configuration.
I have a 3-node cluster running the following version:
pve-manager/9.0.11/3bf5476b8a4699e2 (running kernel: 6.14.11-4-pve)
I’ve configured fencing using fence_ipmilanplus, and the manual commands work correctly (both --action=off and --action=on successfully power cycle the nodes through IPMI).
However, when I simulate a node failure by stopping the network service (systemctl stop networking.service) or by triggering a kernel panic, the cluster does not automatically fence the affected node. I also can’t find any related fencing activity or errors in the logs.
From the web GUI, under Datacenter → HA → Fencing, I only see “Used watchdog node fencing” and there’s no option to add nodes or fencing commands manually (which makes me wonder if something has changed in Proxmox 9).
Has anyone managed to get hardware fencing (via IPMI) working on Proxmox 9?
Any clarification or working examples would be greatly appreciated.
