Hello !

I'm new to Proxmox and Ceph technologies so i'm here with some questions.

I want to create a homelab with a HCI cluster with Ceph.
I plan to buy three mini PC with 16Go RAM , a decent CPU and two hard drives per mini pc.

For hard drives, if i go one SSD NVMe M.2 and one SATA, should i install Pve on the SSD or the SATA ?
For Pve, how much space do i need on my hard drive ?

Any suggestion for mini pc with 200/400 euros price range ?

Any advices or rookie mistakes to avoid ?

Thx !

Ceph needs at least three nodes, so you won't have any redundancy and cannot shut down one node without breaking it. 16GB is not much for virtualization.

PVE itself does not need much space (9GB) and does not need much speed but it does write a lot: so any HDD will do. For VMs, you'll want enterprise NVMe or SSD with PLP.

No, but you'll probably want 10Gbit network ports (and switch) for Ceph.
