Hard Drive access speed

I added a physical disk to a KVM and the disk access time is SLOW!

I'm restoring several directories from a USB disk and its taken 8 hours to copy 215G.

Any way to speed things up? At this rate it will take 2 days to restore.

no speedup for usb, use another backup target (e.g. NFS).

I upgraded to 1.5 last night and installed the 2.6.32 kernel. My KVMs are using less memory, but it seems NFS is not supported in the 2.6.32 kernel. This is the reason for using the USB option.

proxmox:/etc/init.d# ./nfs-kernel-server start
Not starting NFS kernel daemon: no support in current kernel. (warning).

What would be my next best option?

thx.

you do not need a nfs-server on Proxmox VE, you just need to store the backups on your NAS, e.g. on NFS server.

if you want to install a nfs server on Proxmox VE (2.6.32), go for the user space NFS server (nfs-user-server)
