I have several machines (2 Proxmox servers, 1 Proxmox Backup Server, 1 Opnsense Router, 2 Netgear switches) all plugged into 1 APC UPS. It is too much for one UPS so I am going to add a second UPS. Currently the one UPS is being managed by apcupsd installed directly on to one of the Proxmox ve servers.
My thought was to create an LXC container on one of the Proxmox servers, pass through both the APC UPS's via USB to the container, install NUT in server mode to communicate with the UPS's. Then have all the machines plugged into the UPS's as NUT clients so that when battery run time left hits a certain level it would then communicate to each machine a graceful shutdown.
According to Google Gemini this is doable and not a bad plan. However I have read on this forum that there can be some issues with the USB pass through, permissions, etc.
Is this a viable plan, what caveats does anyone have, does anyone know of a written guide to accomplish this?
Any comments are welcome.
Regards
Chuck
