Grub rescue unknow lvm metadata header

I've been running proxmox 5.4 from a usb stick for some time. Lately, my machine has been crashing and now on reboot I get the grub rescue prompt and on the top line the message error unknown lvm metadata header
Error: disk lvmid/B6iwj-..... not found.

How do I get my proxmox installation to boot?

USB like to fail and are not reliable in general, for the future I'd try to have a backup plan (and be it only two sticks which are mirrored).

Lately, my machine has been crashing and now on reboot I get the grub rescue prompt and on the top line the message error unknown lvm metadata header
Error: disk lvmid/B6iwj-..... not found.

If a Server starts to crash I'd advise to immediately see what the root cause could have been, and if it's things like IO errors from the device which hosts the root partition replacing it should be top priority.

How do I get my proxmox installation to boot?

You can try to use the rescue boot from the ISO, but that may or may not work.
Depending on how much of your installation was on the USB stick some things can be permanently lost..
But, hopefully you did not have any virtual guest disk images on that stick, so you could install a new PVE on a new device (ideally not a unreliable USB pen drive), re-add the storage you used for VM/CTs there and recover those manually.

I managed to make a new install Proxmox 6.0 and imported my zpools which holds my data and my VM/LXC disks. However, the VM and LXC configs are all gone. I tried to re-create a config of a LXC and link it the sub-vol disk but that didn't work (I don't remember the failure message now). Would this work?
