[SOLVED] Fresh Install, unable to Webgui or SSH

I did a fresh install of Proxmox VE using 7.2-1.iso. I can ping the IP, and even connects to the webpage. But it tells me "Login Failed, please try again". I know the password is correct as I have a KVM connected to the server and can log in locally. I have tried a couple of different PCs and web browsers, no luck. I am making sure the PCs are on the same subnet, just in case. I've used Windows 10 & 11. I had even reloaded using 7.1-2, but I have the same issue. So basically, I can get to the webpage, but am not able to log in. I ever created another account and tried to log in with that, but no luck.

I've tried rebooting, reloading, retyping, removing myself for a little bit of time. All with the same end result.

I even followed the instruction on "https://www.thepcgeek.net/posts/proxmox-local-gui/" to give me a local gui on the KVM, and I am able to log in with root on there.

This is not part of a cluster or anything special. Just a stand-alone install.

Just a guess: Is the keyboard layout the same?

Yep, I am actually using the Dell iDrac to remotely connect to the Proxmox locally. If that makes sense. So I'm using the same keyboard for remote and local.

Edit 1: I''ve even typed the password into the username slot, to make sure the characters were all ok. And they are.

If you can login via KVM console - change the password to something very simple, ie 12345678 and then try.
Also from the console try ssh to localhost and to the 192.168.2.142

Holy cow, this worked. I would rather not keep the simple password, but it's a start. Strange that it works locally, but not remotely.

Edit 1: I logged in thru the web with the simple password. Once there, I went in and changed the password back to my original, logged out and logged back in successfully. WOOHOO, thank you. I should have thought of that, but glad you did.

I think @Matthias. hunch is correct - I suspect you set the original password not to what you think you did. On KVM console type what your old password was into the shell and carefully examine it.
Beyond that - just login from remote box via ssh and change the password again to whatever you need.

I've also seen some buggy KVMs double the typed characters randomly and few other bugs.
