What disk type do you have the boot partition set to? Virtio is not a good choice BTW.

I installed the 32 bit version on a 4 core vm just fine , but when I'm trying to install the 64 bit version ,
As soon as I select install in the boot menu , It freezes.
here is my vm config file.

boot: cd
bootdisk: ide0
cores: 4
ide0: local:5350/vm-yyy-disk-1.raw,size=25G
ide2: local:iso/FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-x64.iso,media=cdrom,size=114562K
memory: 13000
name: xxx
net1: rtl8139=C2:2D:FB:9F:03:0C,bridge=vmbr1
onboot: 0
ostype: other

Not really helping you with you problem, but you may want to try openmediavault.

It uses a lot of the freenas codebase, but on a debian 6 base. So its should virtualize a lot better given its compatibility with virtio disk and network adaptors

I have a working FreeNas-64 installed. My config:
bootdisk: ide0
cores: 1
ide0: nas_lvm:vm-110-disk-1,size=4G
ide1: nas_lvm:vm-110-disk-2,size=32G
ide2: none,media=cdrom,size=114562K

name: pve-storage1
net0: e1000=02:87:45:78:4A:00,bridge=vmbr0

Previously I was able to fix this issue by upgrading the Proxmox, But now in latest version 3 of Proxmox I have the same issue again,
