I am kinda new to kernel warning and error so not sure what caused this or will it happen again or if it is causing any illness to VM's or server ?

Thanks so much in advance for your time and help

Kind Regards,

First things that would come to mind is to check other messages regarding EDAC in your journal (I don't see warnings or errors in your partial log post).
Sometimes the end result for a component is all you need and the other messages are just informational.

You could check if ECC memory is installed and your motherboard supports it.
EDAC is about ECC [0]
And you could doublecheck your bios settings, perhaps there is a config option for southbridge and/or ECC memory settings.
As an extra to the EDAC messages you could install edac utils apt install edac-utils and run f.e. edac-util -sv

In my understanding it is not possible to check inside an OS if ECC is really enabled, but if you get no warnings/errors and EDAC is detecting memory and memory controllers, then it's should be running.

Above are just starting points but if your system is running fine and no real error/fail messages are written, I would not worry much.
There is a proxmox bug report [1] with a similar question and also a forum post [2]

Server Information

Dell PowerEdge C6320
- 2x 2680v4
- 128 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM 2133 MHz
- 2x 1TB MX500
- PERC H330 Adapter (PCI Slot 1)
- 1 TB HDD for backups

I will try and install EDAC utils
and report more info here

Thank you for this information

ok I installed EDAC Utils
and ran

Code:
root@proxmox:~# edac-util -sv
edac-util: EDAC drivers are loaded. 4 MCs detected:
  mc0:Broadwell SrcID#0_Ha#0
  mc1:Broadwell SrcID#1_Ha#0
  mc2:Broadwell SrcID#0_Ha#1
  mc3:Broadwell SrcID#1_Ha#1

so do the Ha#0 in mc0 and mc1 mean these are not ECC or not enabled in Bios?
and the Ha#1 mc2 mc3 mean these are ECC working?

I will try and do a google search to see if I can find anything in the meantime.
thanks
Spiro

Hi,

Memory controllers in your system are being detected, so that's fine. If ECC is actually enabled is hard to monitor, so I can't answer that.
But still I don't see errors or warnings in your messages so I would consider these informational.

/var/log/debug
But why are you looking here? I would only look in this log file if I would be actually experiencing issues with my system and could not find any info in the regular logs. That's why it's called debug ;)
In general you can just monitor your journal with f.e. journalctl -b (logging since last boot). More info in man journalctl.

Not every error or warning in the log is of concern and also there isn't a fix for every error or warning.
So if in journalctl -b there are no errors or warnings regarding EDAC and your system is running stable, I would argue that there's no need to dig further.

Perfect thanks so mch. since I am a newbie with this stuff, its so nerve recking so much to learn adn read, and then trying to figure out whats what.. So I do appreciate you and your time in your replies :)

Kind Regards,
Spiro
