Hello everyone,

I'm using Proxmox 4.2 with kernel 4.4.2. Well I have a problem, when using any distro with a kernel above 4, my screen starts to flicker. With kernels in the 3 x range the problem doesn't exist. I tried setting nomodeset in the kernel parameters, it resolved the flickering but I could not start a X server anymore.

Here is the log of me trying to start X server with nomodeset enabled.

Video of the flickering

Also, I made in xconf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf but the settings are not enabled at boot. I tried that because DRI 3 might solve the problem.

I hope someone can help me get rid of this flickering,

Kind regards,

Hi,

in this context it would be very helpful to know what your HW is.

Yes! Sorry my bad. I just posted this on an other forum and completely forgot to post the hardware here.

I'm using an Intel Celeron 847 (sandy bridge)

Edit: tested it on 2 different screens, both had the same problem and this problem does not occur with other hardware.

Thank you for your reply, I checked and I am using kernel. 4.4.6-1. Is there still an kernel update available? Or can I just get the latest kernel from debian sid?

Edit: updated the kernel to 4.4.15-1. I still have the problem, only less severe.

Hmm. Guess there isn't a solution to my problem. I see the same problem with Intel GPUs everywhere but nobody seems to no a solution. Does anybody here maybe no how I can get an xorg.cond file to work so I can enable dri3?

That's my last option, if that doesn't work I'm going back to plain old Debian Jessie's. Thought I liked the idea of an web interface and easy to use management tools.

Have you installed the
xserver-xorg-video-intel packet ?

Yes I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel. I also installed libdrm-intel1. I tried the stable one and the one from testing, without results. But thanks for the help, don't really know what to do. Strange that everything works fine with kernel 3.16 and breaks with 4+.

I needed to install the video-intel package from stretch to get the integrated graphics to work with a 6700K. Maybe that helps for you too

Aaah thank you for your reply! tried installing from unstable, but if I do that, al hell breaks loose (systemd dependencies etc maybe force it thought)

Thanks again for the reply! Installed the backport, didn't help, if anything, flickers worse then with the package in stable....:(
