First login fails after fresh PVE 8.1 (iso R2) install

Hi team,
Setting up a new machine with PVE 8 (previously and currently used pve 6.4 - 7)
post install, try my login with root at the console ( not webui).

The cursor moves to the next line, blinks for about 5s, then the whole screen resets to the standard login screen:

Welcome to Proxmox Virtual Environment....
....
pvecompute login:

as if it is rejecting my root username

Any ideas?

Probably not related, but my login display is also getting concerning error outputs like:

EXT4-fs I/O error on dev dm-1 ... I/O error while writing superblock

and other messages about nvme I/O errors

which obviously I'd like to login to view logs!

hope someone can point out what's wrong with my login process.

It's possible the login does not work because it cannot read the necessary files or write the logs, due to the drive problems. Maybe there is an incompatibility with the drive and the Linux kernel? Maybe it is breaking down or the connection is not proper? Test it with another Linux distribution like GParted Live and reinstall if it is not broken?

Thank you, it was strange behaviour indeed - I ended up reinstalling PVE on a different drive and then using PVE to wipe the previous drive - which seems to be behaving following that.
