Two identical Supermicro Servers were upgraded with 128 GB RAM

Hardware Specs :

Mainboard H8DG6/i(-F) with 3ware Hardware Raid controller

3w-9xxx: scsi4: Found a 3ware 9000 Storage Controller at 0xdffdf000, IRQ: 18.
3w-9xxx: scsi4: Firmware FE9X 4.08.00.006, BIOS BE9X 4.08.00.001, Ports: 4.
scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access AMCC 9650SE-4LP DISK 4.08 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

2 x Processor AMD Opteron 6376

Dual CPU System with 32 cores

we use two different proxmox versions :

a) new proxmox 3.0 with debian 7.0
b) latest proxmox 2 version with Linux kernel 2.6.32-17-pve #1 SMP Wed Nov 28 07:15:55 CET 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux ( debian 6)

We assume its a kernel bug.

When booting both servers we get these error messages :

[Firmware Bug] : cpu0, invalid threshold interrupt offset 0 for bank4, block 1

How critical is this error ?

Is there a patch availiable ?

Regards

Martin

do have latest firmware on your supermicro boards?

and try latest Proxmox VE version/kernel.

Re: Firmware Bug Invalid threshold interrupt offset with 128 GB RAM Debian Kernel Bug

Hi Tom,

we get this message on our old installation with

proxmox 2.2/32/3089a616

and kernel
2.6.32-17-pve #1 SMP Wed Nov 28 07:15:55 CET 2012 x86_64

this system is in production.

the error message is identical on a new fresh installation on the second server with proxmox 3.0 using kernel

Linux 2.6.32-20-pve #1 SMP Wed May 15 08:23:27 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

after installation from iso cd we have done all updates, eg. apt-get update / apt-get dist-upgrade

on both systems is the only and latest bios firmware 3.0, there is no other firmware availiable

Best regards

Martin

Re: Firmware Bug Invalid threshold interrupt offset with 128 GB RAM Debian Kernel Bug

this works without any issues

Linux version 2.6.32-22-pve (root@lola) (gcc version 4.7.2 (Debian 4.7.2-5) ) #1 SMP Mon Jul 15 08:36:46 CEST 2013
Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-pve root=/dev/mapper/pve-root ro quiet

with this kernel

but now we use the beta test repository

we need a solution for proxmox stable repository

when ist the 2.6.32-22-pve kernel a stable relase ?

Best regards

Martin

great, thanks for feedback. as always, we collect feedback first from pvetest and then we move the kernel to the stable repo (unless there are issues).

so far there are no known issues with this kernel.

Re: Firmware Bug Invalid threshold interrupt offset with 128 GB RAM Debian Kernel Bug

may i now switch back from testing repro to stable repro ?

i want to use this kernel until the next stable version ist released.
