per the wiki --proto <string> represent the protocol you want the firewall rule to be associated with, thus the usage is --proto TCP for example, yet under the section Security Groups -p is used as key for protocol option(NB: option -p compiles). In fact if you use --proto as the key you get an error as follows "unable to parse rule parameters: --proto tcp". ( i also tried with -proto).
