File services recommendation for homeuser?

Hello.

I have bought an Aoostar WTR MAX on the assumption the box had two SATA-controllers. I had asked if TrueNAS was supported under Proxmox and received a positive response. Unfortunately, there is only one controller so a TrueNAS is no option.

I don’t want to do anything special. What is the easiest way in the long run to present files to Jelly or Immich in one box setup without losing performance please?

- the Turnkey Fileserver in lxc?
- Cockpit with 45drives
- something else?

Thanks

CTs don't really have any storage performance loss as they use datasets. Personally I just use a Debian CT and SAMBA manually. Cockpit works fine too.

Install TrueNAS instead of Proxmox, so you have performance loss from Proxmox and you can run VMs on TrueNAS also.
Better approach: Install TrueNAS inside Proxmox and passthrough the storage controller if its seperate. Win-Win-Win

That’s the problem. It is not separate. I made the assumption the seller knew what he was talking about. I should have asked if the box had two storage controllers.
Maybe a cheap fix could be a PCIe card to work around that?

Jeez, what a monster. At first look thats an awesome box!
In all honesty, i'd bite the bullet and just run TrueNAS on that if you cant return. I'm using a DXP 4800+ from Ugreen for the exact same usecase u are chasing but this one indeed has a SATA Controller to pass through.
