Hello, this is my first post to the proxmox official community forum.

I am working on a build to achieve the following:

1) 8 windows VMs with some dedicated graphics to run some lightweight windows games and store data from those games in a PostgreSQL database
2) 1 said PostgreSQL database
3) 1 plex server

After some feedback from reddit, here is the build I am at (My budget is 2,5000-6,000)

Components:
  • CPU: AMD EPYC 9124 (16C/32T) - $1,000
  • Motherboard: Supermicro H13SSL-N - $1,000
  • RAM: 128GB DDR5 4800MHz (4x32GB) - $600
  • Boot Drive: 2x 512GB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe (RAID1) - $200
  • PostgreSQL Drive: 1TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe (RAID1) - $260
  • VM Storage: 2x 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe (RAID1) - $600
  • Plex Storage: 4x 8TB Seagate IronWolf Pro (RAID5, 24TB) - $800
  • GPU: 2x NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super 8GB (vGPU) - $700
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x 1000W - $180
  • Case: Fractal Design Define 7 - $180
  • Cooling: Noctua NH-U12S TR4-SP3 + 2x Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans - $140
  • Total Hardware Cost: $4,864
VM and Resource Distribution:
  • Windows 11 VMs: 8 VMs, 2 vCPUs each, 8GB RAM each (16 vCPUs, 64GB total)
  • PostgreSQL VM: 1 VM, 4 vCPUs, 24GB RAM (4 vCPUs, 24GB total)
  • Plex VM: 1 VM, 4 vCPUs, 24GB RAM (4 vCPUs, 24GB total)
  • Total: 24 vCPUs (0.75x oversubscription), 112GB RAM, 16GB reserved for Proxmox/ZFS ARC
  • vGPU: 2GB per Windows VM (16GB total VRAM from 2 GPUs), 4GB partition for Plex
Questions:
  • Does this setup look solid for my workload, especially with vGPU and storage?
  • Any last tweaks before I pull the trigger?
