Hi everyone,

first of all I would like to say I really like using PBS, it is super efficient and flexible. I am "evaluating" PBS in a quite complex environment. I have created two PBS, for now they are virtual appliances running on a same PVE cluster. Each of the appliances are using external storage with iSCSI connection to Netapp LUNs, with ZFS. I have created two scenarios. The first scenario is PBS2 pulls data from PBS1 and it is working fine. I am also testing another option, when iSCSI LUN of PBS1 is synced with Netapp snapmirror feature to PBS2 iSCSI LUN. I have managed to mount the synced data store to PBS2 and I can see the backups. But when I tried to add the datastore on PBS2(with GUI), I got an error that the datastore is read-only(as expected).

I have found a workaround(I have not tried it yet): https://www.reddit.com/r/Proxmox/comments/10j97vd/proxmox_backup_server_use_read_only_datastore/

I think it would be a fantastic feature, if PBS could use read only storage in some sort of special mode of operation. I thought about using an overlay FS to solve this challange. This would be a really good feature for DR setups, where the offsite datastore is read-only, such that VMs can be restored to a remote PVE(test restore). In a case of a real issue(disaster), a filesystem can be remounted to RW and PBS would be switched into full operational mode.
