Hi All,
If there is a means of already doing this, I apologize and would appreciate guidance.
Having said that. . . what I'd love to see is a feature where a proxmox node could be set to "maintenance mode" and HA would then migrate all of its VMs off of it (while we watch) and the VMs would "stay away" until "maintenance mode" is turned off on the node.
As it stands, unless we want to disable/ignore HA on each VM and migrate manually (and then re-enable HA per VM afterwards), we can't really "guide" the pre-reboot migrations or otherwise confirm everything is going smoothly. We have to just reboot the node and trust that HA does its job well and won't hang the reboot while a recalcitrant VM fails to migrate, etc.
For us less-trusting sorts, the ability to put a node into "maintenance mode", watch all of its VMs migrate away, patch it, reboot it, and then disable "maintenance mode" and watch all the VMs return. . . that would be ideal and really simplify the manual updating process of nodes.
Just my 2 cents for what it's worth!
Thank you, proxmox team, for an excellent product! And Happy Holidays!
