Hello,
the PVE installer does not support F2FS or is there a trick to use F2FS for the system partition?

You could install first Debian and afterwards Proxmox:
Since Debian doesn't support installing on F2FS you would need to to the trick described by David Sebek. This trick won't work with the Proxmox iso.

Might I ask what you want to achieve with this? Even with F2FS you shouldn't install Proxmox VE on a usb drive, a MMC or sd card since they are not really made for the high amount of writes of Poxmox logging and system services

I'm using F2FS since 2017 on another system (Samsung NVMe) - it works without problems.
F2FS was developed for NAND-flash (including NVMe drives). I believe it is false to think that F2FS is only applicable to dump flash drives.

I like especially that F2FS is a log based filesystem.

Like I said you could go the route via Debian but be aware that this isn't supported so it's more unlikely somebody can help you in case of any problems.

That depends on your proficiency.
What I mean is ... would I end up with the same system, or do the systems differ in some way (== PVE installer is only for convenience and equivalent to Debian installation + steps described in the links)?

That depends on what you would want to archieve. Currently, there is no way to use the vanilla/stock Debian Installer to install a ZFS-based PVE without a lot of intermediary steps, yet If you would know what you want, you could end up with something that is very similar as the PVE version, if you're really good you'll end up with the same, but then you could just use the PVE installert.

There are however things that are not possible with the PVE installer, but with the Debian installert like setting up software raid based on mdadm. This is not integration (and will not be) in the PVE install media. Going the Debian-first route is for people that want to do something very special that is currently not possible with the PVE installer.

In the end, you can always boot up your favourite Debian Live Image and rebuilt what you want.

I want to use F2FS for the Proxmox system partition, and the Proxmox installer (as well as the Debian installer) doesn't support it.
So - no ZFS-based PVE.

You could do a test installation with the Proxomx installer and check out the disk layout and all that.

If you don't select ZFS, an LVM is used with a few LVs. One for the root FS, and importantly, one that is used for a thin-LVM to have a place for disk images right after the installation. If you don't need that and have another dedicated storage for the disk images, you could also skip that.
