Dear Community ,

I want back up my Proxmox VM to an external HDD , and if i have Emegercy situation i want to restore the vms from external HDD. Whιch file system must the external HDD must have?

It doesn't really matter. If you want it easy just create a new directory storage via the webUI and it will mount and format it with ext4.

Otherwise, partition and format it manually via the CLI as you like and then use something like the autofs package to automount it. You could then add its mountpoint as a directory storage in webUI at "Datacenter -> Storage -> Add -> Directory" and then run a pvesm set YourStorageID --is_mountpoint yes
