Exporting a media set

I run tape backups without a fixed schedule; my datasets are rather small, so a single tape can contain several. (I have a simple drive, no library or tape changer).

Since I have no fixed schedule, I set continue as my media set allocation policy. The idea is to trigger manually a new set creation after a certain number of backups.

Is there a command (either in the shell or in the gui) to say "trigger a new set creation now"?

I understand that this is usually done via the --export-media-set in the backup definition, but is it possible to just cause it to happen without binding it to a specific backup?

I see that there is a proxmox-tape export-media <label> command, but I am not sure it does what I want.

Thanks

export-media is only for drives associated with a changer (so not for standalone drives)

the only way currently is by triggering a backup and check 'export media set' or by changing
the allocation policy for a short time when you start the backup

but i guess it would make sense to have a command to trigger a new media-set or to have
an option for the backup to start a new one manually

if you want you can open a feature request here: https://bugzilla.proxmox.com
