Hi,

I have a HPE MSL2024 tape library. After backup to tape is finished, tape is exported to slot 1 according to task log.
2021-10-10T17:59:57+02:00: exported media 'TAPE04L7' to import/export slot 1.
Both GUI and pmtx status show that tape is located in slot 1, but the tape is actually located in slot4, where it was imported from before the backup job.

can you post the library, drive and job configuration? as well as the task log (except the actual data copying)

Please see attached tape.cfg, tap-job.cfg and task log.

tape.cfg
changer: MSL2024
export-slots 1,22,23,24
path /dev/tape/by-id/scsi-DEC83807ZS

tape-job.cfg:
backup: Weekly
comment Backup storage01 to tape every week
drive drive0
export-media-set true
pool Pool1
schedule sat 12:15
store storage01

tape-log:

pmtx status
using device /dev/tape/by-id/scsi-DEC83807ZS
Transport Element (Griper) 0: Empty
Data Transfer Element (Drive) 0: Empty, Serial: CZ2839091B
Storage Element 1: VolumeTag("BAZE04L7")
Storage Element 2: Empty
Storage Element 3: Empty
Storage Element 4: Empty
Storage Element 5: VolumeTag("BAZE05L7")
Storage Element 6: VolumeTag("BAZE06L7")
Storage Element 7: VolumeTag("BAZE07L7")

Tape with volumetag BAZE04L7 is actually located in Storage Element 4 at this point, which is after backup has completed.

how do you know this? the pmtx status command shows it's in 'storage element 1' which is what the library reports... maybe some mismatch of the library?

could you install the 'mtx' tool (apt install mtx) and try to get the status with
'mtx'

Code:
mtx -f /path/to/library-dev status
?

I unloaded magazine on MSL2024 and checked it physically. I have removed BAZE04L7 from slot 4, and after a rescan performed by tape library, everything looks fine.
After next backup run I will check with both pmtx and mtx and see if they report different result.

2021-10-10T17:58:48+02:00: unload media

Is media unloaded back to same slot(4) and then moved to export slot? Or will it be unloaded directly to export slot?

ok, i'll check it then

it's first unloaded and then transferred to the export slot
