Hello everyone,

I've searched around a bit but haven't found any specific information on this.

We currently have our clusters with AMD Epyc 7002 and Epyc 7003 CPUS. Now we would like to upgrade to Epyc 9004`s with 2 new hosts, but can't find any conclusive information on complications/possibilities.

Our main CPU model for VMs is “Host” but we are open to switching to EPYC-Rome-V2 type and yes, we know we cannot use all the latest and greatest CPU flags.
Upgrading the whole cluster is out of scope.

Does anyone here have experience with such setups?

Hi,
using host when it's not the same model can always cause issues, even if it works now, future kernel or QEMU upgrades might suddenly make it fail. So yes, you should use a virtual CPU type that is compatible with both models. See also: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/chapter-qm.html#_cpu_type
