I have just installed a new proxmox 2 box and created my first 2003 r2 server (32bit) onto which I wish to load exchange 2003 standard. I am trying to use the iso image off technet to install exchange but when I try and run setup it just sits in task manager and nothing happens on screen. When I try and run it on a vmware environment it is fine, starts extracting files and begins. I tried copying the files locally but the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and how to get around it?

there seems to be an issue sometimes with MS iso's... try burning it to a CD and using the physical server drive...

Thanks it is a good idea but I am now stuck in that I cannot seem to add th physical cd rom drive. I get an error when trying to add the cd rom - image '/cdrom' does not exists (500)

Any further ideas appreciated.

looks like you hit an already fixed bug, update to latest version and try again. btw, you posted in the wrong forum, I moved the thread to the Proxmox VE 2.0 beta forum.

Thanks but I do not see a newer version available, I only downloaded days ago and am using proxmox-ve_2.0-8d4f53a0-20.iso - please let me know where I might find a newer version if there is one?

the ISO never contains the latest version, you need to run the following commands:

Code:
aptitude update

aptitude full-upgrade

and check afterwards your detailed packages with:

Code:
pveversion -v

Thanks Tom that worked and I can now connect the CD-Rom but still no luck in running the exchange 2003 Iso image from technet. Anyone else have any ideas I am open to trying them!

Post in a MS forum, I doubt that this is a Proxmox VE issue. Just to note, a lot of people run Exchange on Proxmox VE with success.

have you tried redownloading the image? it wouldnt be the first time ive had an ISO corrupt on a download...

Yes I have tried that, but odd thing is that it works fine on a direct server 2003 install and it also works fine on a vmware install with a 2003 server virtual machine. In proxmox it reads the cd image and I can open the autoplay exchange install requirements setup file fine but when I try and run the \setup\I386\setup.exe to actually install exchange it just shows setup.exe in task manager but nothing happens.

I also tried to use virtualclone on another machine and it worked fine but when I try the same thing in the proxmox vm I get the same non responsive result which brought me to the conclusion it might be proxmox related.

i try to do exactly the same thing and i have the same problem. So i tried with vmware virtualisation and iso works correctly.

So i think it's pve related

Fo more information, few months ago with proxmox 2 beta exchange 2003 installation work perfectly. Today with RC1 i can't install it.

PS : i got some errors an windows event under windows server 2003 R2, i think it's pve related because with vmware no problem.

yesterday I just installed for fun a win2003 with exchange 2003 (32-bit) on 2.0 rc1 - no issues, up and running with all updates in under 2 hours.
