Ethernet Speed is Not Displayed Correctly

Hello all,

I have a number of vms that are not correctly displaying their ethernet speed. If I do a cat /sys/class/net/ethname/speed I get back a -1. This throws my Zabbix monitoring into a tizzy, as it does not know what to do with it. It seems the VirtIO driver cannot show the actual speed? Will this ever be fixed or do I have to live with it?

Another post [1] had it constantly report as 10, also for monitoring, so something is different between the two, but they also provided a work-around for it. Maybe that helps you?

What I am testing with is changing the network driver to VMware vmxnet3 and it then posts the right speed.
