Hello

I tried searching for a solution and a suggestion is that it might be a hardware problem.

I have been testing Proxmox for my home server and it ran without a problem for some months. Suddently I could not access my container and connected a monitor to my server it just said "eth0: reset adapter unexpectedly" over and over again. I can't connect the the web UI either.

I reinstalled Proxmox from scratch and it was fine for a week and then it is happened again.
I can also reboot the machine through the terminal, but I have to be at the machine to do it.

I am running Proxmox VE 4.4-1.
What is weird is, that when it happens, my router is blocked. When I try to access the router from other devices, it wont let me. I thought it might be the router, so I tried upgrading the firmware but with no luck.

It is a consumer router (TP-link AC750) and the server is also built using consumer grade hardware.
The motherboard is a ASRock B250M Pro4 and I use the onboard gigabit network connection.

How can I test if it is a hardware problem and if it is, can I use my warranty? The Motherboard 8 month old.

I hope that there are someone that have a solution to the problem or can guide me to one.

SOLUTION: I bought a switch and replaced the bridged router.

Not sure what ethernet-chip you have, but "e1000e" is one of the most buggy ethernet drivers I have ever seen. It caused even my ESXi-cluster to go to PSOD (kernel panic) over and over again. Finaly I got some PCIe/NIC and everything was ok.

That's what I recommend to you: disable on-board NIC, and get some serious one. With a little luck you can get multi-port Intel server network adapter on ebay for a few bucks. And they offer much better performance...

Thank you for the answer. I think I might go for your recommendation and search for an Intel NIC.
I did a quick search and I might have to throw in a bit more than a few bucks, rather $35, but what the heck.

Would this one be a good choice?

It seems to me the one you found it re-branded "Intel PRO/1000 PT, 2x 1000Base-T". Those are server-class single/dual/quad-port adapters, so it should be good. Sure better than the on-board one...

SOLVED!

I received the NIC, installed it in the server and disabled the onboard NIC but it did not work. It did however, improve the situation. I only had to restart the router and not both the router and the server.
As the router my server was connected to was just in bridgemode, I ordered a switch to test if the router was the problem.
I received the switch 2 days ago and so far there has been no problems accessing the server.

I haven't tested the onboard NIC to see if it works yet.

SOLUTION: I bought a switch and replaced the bridged router.
