Error with a backup of a virtual machine

HI

I am getting an error whith the backup of a virtual machine. i dont use PBS just the ebuild in backup function of PVE

2026-10-20 18:32:13 ERROR: VM 1000 qmp command 'query-backup' failed - got timeout
2026-10-20 18:32:13 INFO: aborting backup job
2026-10-20 18:32:13 INFO: resuming VM again
2026-10-20 18:32:20 ERROR: Backup of VM 1000 failed - VM 1000 qmp command 'query-backup' failed - got timeout

How can i resolve this?

is there any more information in the syslog/journal during that time? a timeout of 'query-backup' can have many sources.
is the vm itself fine?
 
there is 56 gb free space on root and we use a synology nas for the backup destination. the vm that has an issue is our main DC.
All other tasks in the backup job run succusfull
 
An you use LVM as base filesystem on your synology nas?
is 56 gb enough space for your vm to backup/ manage?
Maybe you need a separate temporary backup drive on your system.
 
what do you mean with seperate temporary backup drive on the system. why should we need such a drive i dont understand. can you explain maybe?
