Extract from Console output, attached:

Examining /etc/kernel/postinst.d.
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal 5.4.44-2-pve /boot/vmlinuz-5.4.44-2-pve
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools 5.4.44-2-pve /boot/vmlinuz-5.4.44-2-pve
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.44-2-pve
setupcon is missing. Please install the 'console-setup' package.
...

This seems to be a recurrent Debian error re console fonts. Some reporters have had issues post reboot.

Is it safe to reboot to the new kernel?

I can do (and have done) that, but as the system is canonical wondered if it was a Proxmox update issue that might occur more generally.

This is our test non-enterprise machine.

the console-setup package gets installed by the PVE (and PMG and PBS) installer - and from the warning message and it not exiting with an error I would guess that the issue should not prevent the host from booting (haven't tried it myself though) - however if you've configured a different keyboard layout on your console, it could happen, that it does not get loaded (and the system remains with an english keymap)

I hope this helps!

Thanks for that. The system is entirely canonical, with no deviations that I am aware of. Keyboard is English UK.

My comment about it being non-enterprise was wrong, though, I had too many screens open! It's on the enterprise subscription.

I'm inclined to wait for the next minor update and see what happens before rebooting... I'm cautious with production systems.

As @dietmar suggested - do install the 'console-setup' package - it should not hurt and you won't get the message upon upgrade

Can also report here that a pretty simple host that I upgraded from 6.1 to 6.3 reported this warning during the upgrade as well. Did not cause any problems on rebooting, but I've installed the package now anyways just to be safe per the Staff's recommendation above.

Edit: was also apparently missing pve-headers too:

Code:
dkms: WARNING: Linux headers are missing, which may explain the above failures.
please install the linux-headers-5.3.18-3-pve package to fix this.

so I installed the pve-headers virtual package.

If there is any command I can run to check if my PVE install differs from a standard install in any other ways, or is missing packages, it would be cool.
