Error: no backup storage defined - please create a backup storage first

When you created the LVM storage, are you sure you specified vzdump backups? I seem to recall the default is virtual disks?

I installed the 2.6.35 kernel since I run kvm only and it only gives me the option to choose virtual disks..

You need a filesystem to store backups (directory type storage).

My engineer indeed managed to install a filesystem. But had to be done from console. We didn't find an option in the webinterface. Is that correct?

Ok thnx. Than we did it the right way. I assume we can use this also for openvz vps-es or is NFS preferred than? It seems that the iscsi method is faster..

We use the Synology NAS for backups only.. So we don't run vps-es from it..
