Hi, I'm new to Proxmox and wanted to play around and learn a bit about virtualization so I built a computer for it and tried to install Proxmox 7.1.
The problem I'm facing is that I can't seem to use zfs (raid 1) on my two 120GB SATA SSDs. If I use ext4 the installation finishes with no problem.
I've searched around and found similar issues and tried to apply their solutions to my problem but to no avail, often getting errors related to "Failed to write 'LoaderSystemToken' EFI variable: Invalid argument".
I've linked to an image on Imgur of the installation error below, some of my computer specs are also there.

Motherboard: Asus X99-M WS/SE
CPU: Intel Xeon E5 2630L V4
RAM: Samsung 4x8GB 2133 MHz ECC Memory
SSDs: 2x Kingston 120GB A400

Would be thankful for any help or pointers in the right direction!

Hi, and welcome to the community.
You have similar errors in your linked picture as this post [1]
Perhaps this could be a solution for you.
See also [2] as mentioned in above post.

often getting errors related to "Failed to write 'LoaderSystemToken' EFI variable: Invalid argument".
On a hunch - I'd check the System BIOS/UEFI after a reboot - some have a setting that prevent writing efivars from the OS - this would explain the issue

(I know of such a behavior from DELL Servers if you set 'UEFI Variable Access' to Controlled (in the Security settings) - see https://www.dell.com/support/manual...d7ac4a-0ecd-49ff-aaf0-2dd1286a7944&lang=en-us - sadly no experience with your hardware/mainboard)

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses, I read through the posts you linked janssensm but I couldn't find a fix for my problem. I think my issues was a bit different since the installer didn't install the bootloader at all for me. I wasn't installing Proxmox on top of anything and there wasn't really anything to repair or swap from since it didn't manage to install the bootloader. After install and the error rebooting just got me a screen with a single option to boot into BIOS.

I also looked around more in the BIOS as you suggested Stoiko and I tried all kinds of different configurations in the boot section (mostly CSM settings and general boot settings related to UEFI). But I couldn't get it to work. Eventually I gave up and just installed Proxmox with the ext4 filesystem and no ZFS raid. Guess I can use the other SSD for scheduled backups in the future or something.

Thanks again

you can actually workaround this problem until it's solved by installing proxmox 6.4 and online upgrade to 7.1

that has a different boot mechanism (grub + initrd/kernel in uefi partition instead of uefi / systemd boot) and update does not seem to replace that.

I'm facing the same issue. I tried to install PVE 6.4 but I'm getting another error message : unable to bind the codec. Any other ideas ?

Hello after, disabling most of the EFI options, plus cleaning the nvme drives, I got it finally to work.
