Email Alerts not working

Hi,

We have installed Proxmox 4.4 across 4 nodes using Ceph. All is working well however we are not seeing any email alerts / reports come from the nodes. We are able to run manual mail command to root which does send an email successfully. If we look at the log files we are not seeing any attempts of any emails being sent. We have tried to force a problem with a node which we know should send an email alert but again no nodes are sending.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,
what do you use as trigger event?

hello,

When you say a trigger event, does Proxmox send an email upon an event itself ? EG if a vm fails / migrates etc ? There is a entry in the root .forward file |/usr/bin/pvemailforward is in the file. If it comment out this line and add a normal email address, then send an email to root this does work. Place the file back and send an email to root then the email also arrives. So, are we missing something with a trigger event ?

Any info would be brilliant !

Thanks,

Proxmox send emails if

Backup event but have to be set

Update are available if you have a subscriptions.

HA errors.

All put of the crontab.

Hi Wolfgang,

Thank you for replying, okay so if i am understanding you right, we need license for the reporting to work ? Might explain things as notifications were working until we installed Ceph Jewel but had to switch to the community repositories to install which did install PVE packages.

Thanks again,

No the subscription you need only for notification on updates.
And no it dependence not on the repository.

Hi Wolfgang,

Thanks for clearing that up - so, the question is then why we are not seeing any email alerts from Proxmox. When we first started testing, when ever we migrated a VM to another node we would receive an email or if a node was shut off we would receive an email notification. At the moment we are not seeing any of those emails and if we look at /var/log/mail.log there is no suggestion of Proxmox attempting to send an email. Is there something that might have been changed when we switched to the community repositories when we installed Ceph Jewel as the mail reporting was working fine up to this point ? We can send test emails using the mail command to root and they come through fine but no automated emails are being generated. Do you know how / what mechanism is used by Proxmox to produce the emails ? At the moment it is almost like there is no trigger from Proxmox...

Thank you again for your help,

Mark.

When we first started testing, when ever we migrated a VM to another node
Because your get only a email if the Guest is under HA.
