Hi,

I wanted to check - I'm putting together specs for a basic proxmoxVE virtualization machine for a client with a fairly limited budget. Clearly as a server it needs to have hardware raid, and I wanted to confirm recommendation / preferences (if any),

-Areca 1200 - sata hw raid, $180 Cdn - is supported I believe
-RocketRaid/Highpoint 3120 - sata hw raid - $150 Cdn - also supported, but more recently (only in latest 1.2 release ?)
-other options that spring to mind?

Probably if these 2 options are equally preferred/ but the areca is supported for a longer period / or if it has better general feedback, maybe it is better to go with this raid card; I'm not sure.

Any comments are appreciated.

BTW, congrats on the release of the new version of ProxmoxVE .. very glad that things keep marching forward :-)

Rocketraid 3120 does not work with 1.2 as I believe the drivers have not been backported to the 2.6.24 kernel used with ProxmoxVE. Highpoint mixed it up and made them a separate package from the rest of their drivers. I know they are part of the 2.6.25 kernel, so I'm doing some research to see if I can somehow build and integrate the driver into the installer, but I'm kinda dumb so I doubt I'll get it working :P

I need to somehow get this kernel on a version of the Proxmox bare-metal installer. The problem now is that the installer does not see the card thus I cannot install the base system on it.

we just started testing of KVM-86 and depending on the results we will decide what to release next - hopefully we can provide an ISO containing the new kernel end of week.
