so i know how dualboot works and all of that but i noticed that in proxmox install you can only install it on a whole disk but i want to install it on a single partation. i know i could install proxmox on a whole disk and then make a linux vm (because i use arch) but i want to know if it's even possible to dualboot proxmox because if what i said

Just install PVE to separate external USB3 SSD. The PVE ISO wipes the target disk(s) for boot/root.

Proxmox is not really designed for dual-boot, but this is probably the easiest method to get you there.

Regardless, you should do a full bare-metal backup of your Windows install BEFOREHAND to separate disk / NAS using e.g. Veeam Free Agent, and make the bootable recovery ISO for it. Then make sure that backup is detached from your system entirely before installing PVE.

There is a more convoluted path you can take by installing Debian and then proxmox on top of it, but I don't recommend it.
