Hello,

if you could choose between DRBD9 and CEPH, what would be your favorite and why?

Lets say buying a RAID-Controller would not be a problem and it is all about performance (e.g. response time) and scalability.

Thanks in advance,

Afox

DRBD9 is still beta/technology preview (drbdmanage) and not feature complete - there are not that many production setups (I am not aware of any).

Ceph is stable and widely used.

So if you have to start now, there is only Ceph.

hello, thanks for your answer.

If you keep the beta-stadium aside, is DRBD9 expected to be "faster" (better IOPS, response time etc.) than CEPH? theoretically, what are the pros and cons (i can wait a little for stable release).

DRBD guys always tells that they are the fastest. But also all others do this and speed without stability is worth nothing in the HA world.

As long as you follow the hardware recommendation on Ceph, you will see good performance (fast SSDs, fast network, enough OSDs)

Overall performance depends on the real use case, a simple single benchmark does not always represent real world workloads.

As we talk about HA here, the most important features of a shared, distributed or replicated storage system is stability.

DRBD9 was announce in June 2015, but 10 months later the main tool for managing is still not here in a stable release - drbdmanage. People still report many small problems, there is progress but slowly.
