DRBD iSCSI vs DRBD NFS

Hi,

I have separate servers for my DRBD shared storage, using Ubuntu 13.10 and DRBD 8.4.4. Currently they are serving iSCSI to Proxmox. I'd like to switch to NFS to get snapshots, but when I did, my disk speeds dropped. I get 118 MB/s on DRBD/iSCSI, and about 40 MB/s on NFS (async). When I disconnect the DRBD secondary, NFS speeds go up to ~118 MB/s.

Is any one using shared storage on DRBD and NFS? What kinds of speeds are you getting?

Gerald

Just to note, DRBD is not shared storage.

Iits is a software-based, shared-nothing, replicated storage solution mirroring the content of block devices (hard disks, partitions, logical volumes etc.) between hosts.

I suggest you also take a look on Ceph RBD. You will need 3 servers here but its a quite interesting option and quite flexible.

DRBD performance drops seems not Proxmox VE related so I suggest you also check DRBD docs, performance guides, troubleshooting.

A good place for help is also the DRBD user list or even better, contacting the Linbit Support Team.

I agree, it's not directly Proxmox related. I was checking to see if anyone using Proxmox has seen the same issue and maybe solved it.

I have DRDB version 8.4.4 into the PVE Nodes, the performace is very good, the better of DRDB is that if DRBD is running into PVE Nodes, the read speed is the same speed of your hard disks or the RAID controller, and consumes almost nothing of hardware resources.
