Does Proxmox support DELL HBA355e?

Hi, everybody!

I'm planning to acquire dell poweredge servers (with DELL HBA355e) and dell storage. And connect servers to storage via SAS cables.

Does Proxmox support DELL HBA355e?

While we cannot guarantee that any particular piece of hardware (with any particular version of firmware on it) will run in PVE - usually HBA adapters have support in the linux kernel. PVE kernel is based on the current ubuntu kernel (currently this means 5.13 per default with 5.15 as opt-in) - so you could ask Dell if their HBA will run on Ubuntu (my guess is it will)

this link from Redhat seems to indicate that the particular HBA is working with RHEL 8.1 (which was released over 2 years ago):

So my guess is that the HBA should work

If you plan on using the storage in a cluster (as shared storage):
Keep in mind that you can only use LVM (not lvm thin) on top of a shared SAS/SCSI Storage
(Alternatively you can also use the LUNs directly - and handle guest disk-creation manually on the SAN)

I have used that HBA before in the i-variant (the ports are for the backplane in the server and not exposed in the back to connect external storage) and it worked without issues. The e-variant should not be any different, it is the same board, only the position of the sas connectors differ.

As long as your hardware works in a standard Linux-environment (like ubuntu or debian [which is what ubuntu is built upon] just like stoiko mentioned), it works with proxmox as well.
