Do I understand repositories in proxmox?

From looking at this: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Package_Repositories

it would appear that "free" users get no pve specific updates until new releases come out. Is this correct? I would assume based on the sources.list file that I can rely on security and other patches to base system functionality from debian.

If this is correct, what it the "usual" timeline for minor/major updates. Looking at the download page (https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads/category/iso-images-pve) makes it appear like quarterly or more has been the recent trend.

Thanks,
dK

Hmmmm... then that wiki document is worded in a way that will scare some people...

Proxmox VE No-Subscription Repository

As the name suggests, you do not need a subscription key to access this repository. It can be used for testing and non-production use. Its not recommended to run on production servers, as these packages are not always heavily tested and validated.

It seems like this wording is pretty clear not to use the No-Sub repo unless you are testing. So if my small company can't afford a yearly subscription but we rely on the functionality are we better off leaving both repos off and just testing and planning our upgrades when new versions come out?

If you canńot afford the subscription (starts with € 5 euro per month), please use the pve-no-subscription. Using NO update repository will not give you any security or bug fix, so this is no option.
