I've used vmware, virtualbox, and kvm on my laptop. Tonight I'm trying proxmox for the first time. I got stuck after logging into root. It seems like this is a dead-end unless I have a second computer?

Is there a way around this or must I always be playing about with a second computer to setup my VMs?

(Sorry if this has been asked many times before. I did try searching first but without luck.)

PVE is headless, so yes. You need a second computer to access the webUI if you want any kind of GUI (but all could be theoretically done using the CLI...just no beginner-friendly/comfortable) unless you install some desktop environment like for example explained here: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Developer_Workstations_with_Proxmox_VE_and_X11
