Hi all

I am planning a new Proxmox install. I tried to find information on preferred ZFS disk layout.

I am thinking about building one ZFS RaidZ2 with 4-6 disks (1tb ssd/each). both running OS and VM's

Alternative
But would it be better installing Proxmox OS on 2x500 gb ssd RaidZ1 and only run VM's in RaidZ2 pool?

What are the up/downsides with separate disks for OS?

I am thinking one disks array would be more secure, alternative go for Raid Z3 instead??

Is performance a factor in your build? If so, I would build one array only with stripped mirrors (RAID 10 equivalent in ZFS).

speed is not an issue. I rather like secure disk setup. With RaidZ2 any 2 disks can fail. Rail 10 2 disks going down might break the pool.

I just can't figure out if I should install OS on 2 separate disks? or ex. add one extra disk and go RaidZ3 instead?
