Goodmorning guys!

i'm having a very very strange problem and how don't know the cause and what to do!
So i add 2 new disk to the system, they are passed directly to a vm (proxmox bkp server) so i can simply rmeove the disk and easely access the content via every linux pc.
My server, due to energy cost, went from h24 to occasional use (i have a smaller server a mini pc with just essential). Some times my zfs pool goes to DEGRADED and say that a disk is missing. I can see the disk in the disk view and the smart tab of this disk. I have to format it and replace it in the zfs pool.
The strange thing is that the system seems to change automatically this disk (i will call it disk1 ) to pass to the proxmox bkp machine!! This happen some time when i boot the system no idea of what is happening! i have to remove the disk from the vm passtrough to redo the zfs procedure as i said before.
No idea of the cause!!
Any suggestions?

Without a working PBS there is nothing you could do with it as all data is split into chunks and deduplicated.

Are you using "/dev/sda", "/dev/sdb" and so on? These will change when a disk is removed or added. You should use unique IDs instead like the ones you find in "/dev/disk/by-id/".

And a missing disk could have many reasons. For example:
- bad disk
- disk overheating
- bad firmware
- bad cabling
- bad disk controller or backplane
- bad PSU
...

In case always the same disk is missing I would try to swap the cables and port with another disk and then see if the same disk on another port/cable is still vanishing.

So, it seems i found the problem: faulty disk! I replaced it and everything is working now.
Strange thing is the smart reports no fault on it, even tried in another system!
