Disaster recovery strategy or how to backup the backup

Hi

I have been looking but cannot see in the documentation how to best setup a disaster recovery plan for PBS.
For sure, a secondary PBS server can be set up to give extra redundancy, but is there a solution for extra disaster recovery saving data stores to external disk ?

Lets say there is Proxmox VE Host A, and PBS Host B and then there is some sort of event, be it fire or something similar where both hosts are lost.

Is there a recommended way to secure against this?
(There is tape support, but tape drives might have been lost as well)

Just doing a dumb full copy of the disk holding the datastore for host B, will that well even work? further, is it the recommended way or is there a better strategy?

(For some reason I tend to work with verifying all backups in january, sometime I might start doing it more regularly)

Nothing official yet but they are working on something like the tape backup for HDDs.

Yes, as long as you got the full datastore folder and don't lose the encryption key, you could always copy it to a new PBS and reuse it by editing your datastore.cfg. But very annoying to change the owner of the backup snapshotsnas there is no bulk editing yet. And you probably also want to backup the /etc/proxmox-backup folder to have a copy of the configs.

Ok, thats doable I guess. Just sounds a little convoluted.

Hopefully getting some tape-like solution but for disks sounds nice!

So in the meantime...

rclone sync /mnt/datastore remote:
rclone sync /etc/proxmox-backup remote:

I assume I should encrypt (or use a cryptstore) the proxmox-backup directory?
Also, is this best scheduled with cron? I didn't see any way to chain to the end of a backup (on the PBS target).

Thanks!
