Detaching a disk iamge

I wanted to wipe all of a VM's storage. I detached the VM's disk image under "hardware" and added a new one. Is this the correct way of wiping the storage?
 
Hi,

if you just detach the image it will still on the storage.
You have to remove the unused disk too.
 
If you look in the Hardware tab you will see an unused disk after you detached the disk.
This disk you can be selected and then press the remove button.
