Hello everyone,
I have imported a VM from VirtualBox into a Proxmox VM.
Everything has worked so far ... Now my question:

I had copied the vdi file for importing into the root directory of Proxmox.
Can I delete this file now or is it still needed? It is 29GB after all!

Would be great if someone could help me further....

Great Michael

Thanks for the answer, I will delete the file ...
If you are really unsure and fear data loss: just rename it! Wait some time and then delete it... :-)

If you finished the import and confirm that VM boots, then, yes, you can delete the source file - its not needed by Proxmox. Whether you might need it for something else later - only you can decide.

Good luck

Searching google for "can you delete VDI after installing VirtualBox VM" nets you a couple results, the first result that actually includes 'VDI' in the title is this thread.
I am not using Proxmox, I am not entirely sure what this is, but it said here that it's safe to delete my VDI after setting up the VM, so I did. Well apparantly a VDI in VirtualBox is actually very much necessary, it mounts to the VM as a hard drive, containing all of the data on said VM.
After running `rm ./haos_ova-14.0.vdi` the VDI was gone, and with that almost my my entire Home Assistant deployment...

(Not blaming anyone here, this rookie mistake was because I'm an idiot. Gonna take UdoB advice when deleting something that might be important)

TLDR: If you're using VirtualBox, the .VDI is necessary!
