Debian 11.1 install: EFI disk not recognized

Hi,

When I install debian 11.1 on proxmox with EFI, the guest does not see the EFI disk, hence I can not install debian 11 as guest os.
Andy ideas?

Hi,

Note that the efi variable disk is showing to the guest just as an SRAM flash chip, like in actual hardware, so I rather think that your problem is that you have no hard disk where you could actually install the system...

You can add one in the Hardware tab of them.

So, I need an EFI disk and a normal disk? (like in a non EFI install)?

For an EFI installation that uses OVMF as bios yes, you'll normally need both.

The EFI disk is only <= 4 MiB big (actual size depending on storage it is on) and holds basically only the boot entries and firmware configuration. For the actual OS you need an actual disk, normally with a few tens to hundreds of GiB size, depending on your use case and setup.

If you do not require/want EFI you can use SeaBIOS as firmware, as that is a pre-EFI legacy BIOS (albeit it's still actively development, only the interface is for rather legacy uses) it won't need any EFI disk, so there you'd only have the actual OS disk.
