Hi, I just installed Proxmox (now about 5 times) on my home server. Every time I try to view the datacenter summary it keeps jumping back to the top of the page.
I tried clearing my cache and cookies. I even tried a different browser (chrome and edge). Any suggestions?

Hi,

Is there any error in Google console? if you have seen it?

Did you tried from a different device to browse it?

Can you please post output of pveversion -v

I have tried from a different device to no avail.
This is the only error in the console
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (binary not installed: /usr/bin/ceph-mon)

hi,

* how did you install? PVE ISO or from debian?

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (binary not installed: /usr/bin/ceph-mon)
* is ceph configured? it seems you are missing ceph-mon package.

I installed it from an ISO file. No ceph is not configured, is it necessary?

no it's not necessary.

could you try updating to the latest package versions?

firstly make sure your repositories are configured [0]

then do apt update && apt dist-upgrade, let the update finish and reboot the machine.

Finally created an account to jump in on this one.

I have always had this effect with all 5 members of my cluster, both on the Summary pages and on Ceph summary pages. I notice this "jump" back to the top of the page occurs whenever the page is updated.

This is only a problem on my laptop with a smaller screen, since at my desk with full size monitors all of the data I want to keep up fits on the screen without scrolling. My fix on my laptop is to just zoom out until everything I want is present on the screen. If there is a better fix, or something we can help get implemented to allow data updates without what essentially feels like page refreshes, then that would be great.

EDIT: details so my post isn't useless -

Sadly that's what I expected. This page refresh has always been there since my first test lab installation.

EDIT: I shouldn't call it a page refresh, its more of a frame refresh.

I've been digging around and it looks like this is just part of how its designed to function. It seems like there would need to be a bit of a rewrite of how graphs and logs are updated in the web interface to prevent this page "jump".

Do I understand you correctly, that you open the Datacenter Summary page and scroll down a bit, then after a few seconds it jumps to the top again?

I tried that and left a small Chromium window in that state and it stayed scrolled down for hours and thus wasn't able to reproduce the problem. It is probable that I am missing something here in order to reproduce the problem.

Absolutely correct. As to why you can't reproduce it, I'm not sure. I'll do more experimentation on my end.

I do have Ceph installed, and it looks like @adt does too. Was Ceph present in your test @aaron ?

Wait, @adt, do you have a touchscreen attached to your workstation/laptop that you view your Datacenter Summary on? Because I do.

EDIT:
After testing, the "jump" occurs on my system under the following browsers:
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Edge
Tested IE too, but IE failed to load the page.

You found the bug! It only happens on my touch screen laptops... Just tried on the one laptop I have that's not touch screen and there is no jumping.
@aaron is there a place to open a bug report?

I just tested it with a laptop with touchscreen running Windows and can confirm the problem on the Datacenter -> Summary pages and the Ceph summary pages.

I created a new bug report to which you can subscribe if you want. https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3132

I finally started looking into this after being annoyed for quite a while when using my laptop. I did not think of the connection with touchscreen devices, but that is correct. It does not happen on my non-touchscreen devices. I have added myself to the CC list on the bugzilla page, is that the correct way to subscribe to an issue?

FYI, this is resolved in Proxmox 7, at least as of pve-manager: 7.0-9 .
Thanks for the update. I tested it as well again and yep, seems to be working as expected in the latest PVE version. Here with pve-manager 7.0-9.

I'm also marking this thread as solved then.
