Hi,

just to be sure. when going to create a cluster where there is one node with VMs and the others are empty, is it always recommended to start the cluster on the node where the VMs run, and then have the other, empty, nodes join the cluster? In another words, add a node when it's empty...

Also I guess the best is to shut down all the VMs for security reasons?

Hi,
PVE will only allow you to join nodes without VMs to a cluster, in order to avoid e.g. conflicting IDs. So the workflow will always be to create the cluster (that node might contain VMs, also no need to shut them down first) and then join the new, empty nodes to the cluster.

Edit: Backups of the VMs/CTs are of course recommended before performing any steps, better safe than sorry.
