Creating a Cluster with VMs on primary node

Is it possible/recommended/not recommended to form a cluster with VMs on primary node ?

So this is what I need to do. I have a 2 node cluster working with several VMs on each. I would like to put one node out of service to remove and add some hardware which would require me to reinstall Proxmox (or I would prefer to reinstall it). Once I have one node working I would create cluster on it #pvecm create <cluster name>
Once this is done I would like to move the VMs (most likely over a local NFS storage) to this node, then put the second node out of service and replace hardware, reinstall proxmox on it and add it to the cluster (to the first node). The first node would have already several VMs running on it but the second node would have non at this time.

Is it doable ? Thank you for any input on this.

Yes. All you need to do is be sure to remove the node from the cluster, and never let it connect again. Name it something different when you connect it the second time.

I will not be renaming any nodes I am planing on reinstalling and do a clean install.

So:

1. Starting with old two node cluster, moving all VMs to one node.
2. On the node to which I move the VMs, pvecm -e 1 and disconnect the first node from the old cluster
3. Replace the hardware, reinstall Proxmox and issue pvecm create <clustername> on the disconnected/new node.
3. Move over the VMs from the old cluster to new node with the new cluster (via NFS storage)
4. Once the VMs are all on the new node, replace hardware on the old cluster node and reinstall Proxmoxm
5. Join the second node to the cluster and distribute VMs evenly.

Do this sound right ?
