Hi,

I have a VM running under PVE that stores a lot of data that I want to have encrypted at rest.

On the PVE host, I have created a ZFS pool and inside that pool an encrypted dataset.

So now I would create a virtual disk on the ZFS pool and add it to the VM.

But how do I make PVE create the virtual disk in the encrypted dataset ?

Thanks!

Have you studied the ZFS guide? https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/ZFS_on_Linux

It has entire section dedicated to encryption. The gist of it - its not plug-and-play. You have to figure out yourself how to load the key prior to PVE operations.
You might find some examples of how people have done it already.
