Hello all,

Am running PVE 8.2.7 with Intel E5-2680 v4 (launced in 2016 and is actually a HP Z640 Workstation). Is runign 24x7 with a few windows server VMS

All is working well and I was just tinkering around the internet when I discovered powertop and cpu governing. Never knew these existed until now.

I've managed to get powetop running/configured fine but am falling over very early on with cpu governing.

It does not seem to be installed on my pve?

If I run for instance cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors

or

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor

I get no such file/directory exists. So I cannot even inspect what setting am currently on.

The only advice I did find is this helper script to install:

https://proxmoxve-scripts.com/scripts?id=Proxmox+VE+CPU+Scaling+Governor

Should I use this or a "more official" source?

Would I need to change anything within my bios?

If I do get the governor running how would I make that setting permanent?

Thank you and cheers in advance.

I have see this recently on a dell poweredge server, where the profile in the bios was in economy mode,
and governor was not exposed to guest os.

you should check in your workstation bios if they are something related to cpu governor , cpu profile, ...something like that
