Hello. Yesterday my home ESXi installation quit and I have been out of the loop for a while, so missed the demise of VMWare and it's free version of ESXi. As a result I have decided to migrate to Proxmox VE but there are some cross migration elements I don't fully understand and was hoping for some guidance. My ESXi installation stored it's vmdk files on a network attached storage (Not iSCSI). I used the ESXi storage method of "connect to network share" and all my available machines were ready to add to the ESX vSphere Client.

I would like to be able to reuse these machines within Proxmox using the import vmdk function, but for now can connect to the NAS share but am unable to see the lists of vmdk files. I have tried making a storage connection using both SMB/CIFS and NFS and while the connection can be made, I am unable to see any files in the storage location. I am also able to use file manager to connect to the NAS folder containing the vmdk files, so confirm that the location is live and accessible (at least through Windows).

If I am unable to do this using the method above, how would I copy vmdk files from their current location to a new storage directory on the newly installed Proxmox installation?

Any help is most appreciated.
