Convert VMware VM to Proxmox

Hello guys

We use Proxmox 6.0.4 and Vmware ESXi and now i tried to convert a Vmware .vmdk File to Proxmox but this dosen't work

I first copied the Disk File to the Proxmox and then i coverted it with qemu-img zimbra-dev.vmdk -O raw zimbra-dev.raw on the CLI of the Proxmox
This step worked fine also the dd Copy job to move the raw File to the Storage
After that i created a new VM with the disk File attached
But after i start the VM the Grub Error "normal not found"

The source disk was a logical LVM drive

What is problem?

What version of ESXi are you using?

Proxmox 6.0.4

Upgrading to 6.2 is very unproblematic and usually a very good idea.

In case you haven't done so yet, please read the migration guide in the PVE wiki. Manually running qemu-img convert and dd should not be necessary. Use qm importdisk instead.

Thanks for your reply. I will first update Proxmox and give a try with qimport Disk ESXi is Version 6.5U1

The export function in the ESXi GUI is relatively new. I'm not sure if it exists already in 6.5. If not then make sure that there are no snapshots for your ESXi VM, copy the files and use qm importdisk.

My collegue fixed it (don't know what he does) and now the VM is working fine therefore the Case can be closed
