Contribution: Cleaned VirtIO + install on fresh XP / 2003

Servus,

This is not a support request but some help for those who would like to use VirtIO drivers.
Image files provided by RedHat are, to my mind, very messy, it is very hard to know where what is.
Therefore, I cleaned them and created OEM files for storage drivers in text mode.
Now it looks like this

  • Windows-2003-32bit
  • Windows-2003-32bit-Textmode
  • Windows-2003-XP-64bit
  • Windows-2003-XP-64bit-Textmode
  • Windows-7-2008R2-64bit
  • Windows-7-32bit
  • Windows-Vista-2008-32bit
  • Windows-Vista-2008-64bit
  • Windows-XP-32bit
  • Windows-XP-32bit-Textmode
All drivers are present, therefore it should be also useful for those using KVM without Proxmox.

I also documented how to install a fresh Windows XP / 2003 with VirtIO.
It uses the hack described here http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/3711-Floppy-support-hack
(Thanks a lot meto!)
I applied it manually on current Proxmox 1.9 version as patches aren’t working anymore.
I also created floppy images for storage drivers in text mode together with patched files.
It looks like this:

  • Images-floppy-CD
    • All-VirtIO-drivers.iso
    • Floppy-Windows-2003-32bit.raw
    • Floppy-Windows-2003-XP-64bit.raw
    • Floppy-Windows-XP-32bit.raw
  • Proxmox-1.9-floppy-hack
    • File-locations.txt
    • Modified-files
    • Original-files

Documentation for XP / 2003 is there: https://sites.google.com/site/fabienvisentin/ProxmoxVirtIO.pdf

So, dear Proxmox team, are you interested to post it somewhere?
If yes, let me know where to send doc file containing all text and screenshot and other files.
If not, feel free to delete this post.

Currently confirmed:
Windows XP / 2003 32
Windows 7 32 and 64 bit
Windows 2008
